Rooting Your Android – Should You Root Android?

Welcome back again , In the previous post we learnt about the various rooting terminology . Now get some doubt clear before we move on to the real process .

What is rooting ?
Several Android manufacturers disable many hardware and software features to exploit them in the future  . By rooting your phone you can bypass these limitations and gain full access to your mobile hardware and software . The root user is similar to the Administrator user on Windows. Or, you can say that rooting an Android phone is just like jail-breaking the iPhone. Once your device is rooted you can install any app without any kind of restrictions . you can upload custom ROM’s, install custom themes, increase performance and a plethora of other things.
Custom ROM  The first and foremost advantage of rooting is , it enables you to install new ROM’s , these roms come in many flavors . and they carry much more features than what comes preloaded on the device . they enhance your phone’s looks and provide increase in performance and even battery life . For instance, if you want to upgrade your phone from Android Froyo to Ice-Cream Sandwich, you can do so by flashing one of the custom ROMs available. Search for the one that is best for your phone.
The best Android ROM’s are available on the XDA forum here
Overclocking : After rooting your device , you can directly control your phone’s hardware . It is then possible to overclock or under volt the Android processor. It does increase your phone’s performance in some apps but there’s a risk of thermal throttling and severe damage to your phone .
USB tethering:  Although operators in India support these features, carriers abroad charge extra for the same. Similarly, if the phone is designed to be NFC-enabled, rooting will unblock the same.
Remove bloatware: Wouldn’t you like to remove unnecessary apps from your device? Carriers for instance include branded software that is often unremovable, which is where having elevated privileges comes in handy.
Free internal storage: People who have low internal memory can transfer any application from internal memory to SD card after rooting their phone. There are some applications that provide the option by default. But if you want to force move an app by creating a symlink, you must use an app that only works on a rooted phone.
So those were about the merits. Nothing’s perfect and there are certain caveats associated with rooting an Android device.

Disadvantages of rooting

While the benefits are numerous , you still get to invite a lot of problems.
Void of warranty: All mobile manufactured strictly advice against tinkering with the Phone’s hardware or software . As soon as you root your phone, you void your phone’s warranty and if anything happens to your phone even when it’s in the warranty period, the company is going to charge you for the repairs. In some of the phones, you can unroot your phone, but in most of the phones there’s is no going back.
Bricking your phone:We don’t want to demotivate you but , The risk of “bricking” is also associated with rooting. . but if you still want to go ahead . This means that rooting can mess up the phone’s software so badly that it won’t work any more and your phone will be as useless as a brick.
